Love Australia's koalas? So do we! 🐨
September is Save the Koala Month, with Save the Koala Day falling on the 25th, and it's a cause especially close to our hearts here at Make My Shave.
As a small business with a lot of love to give, we felt that just being a brand wasn't enough. So we decided to make a positive impact along the way by proudly supporting Currumbin Wildlife Hospital with every order made through our store.
Spring is one of the most beautiful times of year in Australia, but for our wildlife it's also one of the most dangerous. As the weather warms up, koalas and other native animals are on the move, searching for breeding partners and crossing our local roads and railways to do it.
Sadly, this makes spring the busiest and most challenging season for the incredible vet team at Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.
Meet Koala's: Clarabel and Thomas
This month's feel good story features a very special mum and bub duo, Clarabel, aged 8, and her six-month-old joey Thomas. You may have even spotted them on the news.
The pair were rushed to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital on the Gold Coast with serious injuries after being struck by a train in Ormeau.
Clarabel suffered a haemabdomen, a skull fracture and head trauma, while little Thomas sustained a pelvis fracture and head trauma too. Their injuries sparked weeks of round-the-clock care in the hospital's intensive care unit.
After stabilising in ICU, mum and joey were moved to koala rehab, where they slowly built up their strength and confidence.
And here's the part that made our whole team smile. Clarabel and Thomas have now been released back into the wild at Ormeau, together. 🤍
How you can help this Save the Koala Month?
Stories like Clarabel and Thomas's are only possible because of the tireless work of the team at Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, and the support of people who care.
With around 400 koalas admitted every year, the demand for fresh, nutritious eucalyptus is enormous. The hospital's gum cutters and vet nurses go to extraordinary lengths every single day, hand-selecting several types of gum to keep their koala patients happy, comfortable and healing.
