How to Dermaplane with Oil

Before you start

Always sanitise your blade before use. You can do this by spraying with isopropyl alcohol or wiping carefully with Dettol, then allowing it to air dry completely. This helps maintain a clean, hygienic routine.

Step 1: Cleanse

Start with freshly cleansed skin. Remove all makeup, sunscreen, and skincare, and ensure your skin is clean before beginning.

Step 2: Apply oil

Apply a few drops of a light, hydrating facial oil. This creates a protective glide, helps support the skin barrier, and allows the dermaplaner to move smoothly across the skin.

Step 3: Dermaplane

Hold the dermaplaner at approximately a 45-degree angle, with the blade facing downwards. Using short, gentle strokes, lightly sweep the blade in the direction of hair growth.

Use minimal pressure and allow the blade to glide naturally. Work in small sections, and wipe the blade clean between strokes if needed.

If it’s your first time

Go slowly and begin with a small area to become comfortable with the technique. Dermaplaning should feel gentle and controlled.

Safety guidance

Our dermaplaner is designed for gentle at-home exfoliation when used as directed. Always use light pressure and avoid use on irritated, inflamed, sunburnt, or compromised skin, including active breakouts or open wounds.

Aftercare

Once finished, massage in any remaining oil and follow with a gentle hydrating serum or moisturiser. Your skin may appear brighter and feel smoother immediately.

Avoid strong active ingredients (such as exfoliating acids or retinol) for 24 hours to allow the skin barrier to settle.

Blade care

After use, carefully clean and sanitise the blade if you intend to reuse it and it remains sharp. Allow it to dry completely before storing. Replace blades regularly to maintain performance and hygiene.

How often

Dermaplane every 2–4 weeks, or as suited to your skin’s natural renewal cycle.

The Oilplaning Kit arrives in a Heropack mailing satchel made from renewable ingredients. To compost the mailer, remove any labels, cut them up, and place them in your home compost bin. It will break down within 90-120 days.

The eco-friendly mailing box is suitable for home recycling.

Stickers are made from FSC-certified, acid-free paper, making them both compostable and recyclable. The tissue is crafted from acid-free, 100% recycled paper, also suitable for home recycling.

The bottle is made of frosted glass, which is widely recyclable. Remove the label and rinse the bottle thoroughly to remove any residue before recycling. Check with your local recycling guidelines to confirm that frosted glass is accepted
