Why You'll Love It
Why women across Australia are loving the smooth skin effect of our dermaplaning tool.
We created our Metal Dermaplaner with a simple belief: your beauty tools should work beautifully—and last.
After noticing most at-home dermaplaning tools were made from disposable plastic or wheat straw, we set out to design something better. The result is a premium metal tool that delivers real results, again and again.
Made to last, our 100% plastic free dermaplaner has become one of Australia's most-loved skincare essentials—for good reason.
Why your skin will love your new dermaplaning tool
Dermaplaning removes the top layer of dead skin cells and peach fuzz — but the results go further than just hair removal.
Regular at-home dermaplaning with a clean, sharp metal blade:
✔ Reveals brighter, more even skin tone immediately
✔ Smooths skin texture for flawless makeup application
✔ Boosts absorption of serums, moisturisers, and active ingredients
✔ Softens the appearance of fine lines over time
✔ Leaves skin feeling genuinely soft — not just smooth
Most customers notice the difference from their very first session. Skin looks brighter, foundation goes on more evenly, and skincare absorbs more deeply. It's why dermaplaning has become one of the most searched skincare treatments in Australia — and why so many women who try it, love it.
Why our metal dermaplaner makes a difference
Not all dermaplaning razors are the same. Plastic and wheat-straw tools flex under pressure, dull faster, and lack the weight you need for controlled, precise exfoliation.
The Make My Shave Metal Dermaplaner is different:
✔ Solid stainless steel handle — weighted for control, no flexing
✔ Ergonomic finger divot for precise grip on jawline, upper lip, and brows
✔ Precision-angled blade for gentle, effective exfoliation without dragging
✔ Replaceable blades — replace only what needs replacing, not the whole tool
✔ Easy blade change system — quick, easy, no risk
The result is an at-home dermaplaning experience that feels controlled, safe, and genuinely close to a professional treatment — without the $100–$290 clinic price tag.

How to Use
How to use your dermaplaning tool at-home
Before you start
Sanitise your blade before every session. Spray with isopropyl alcohol or wipe carefully with sanitiser, then allow to air dry completely.
Step 1 — Cleanse
Start with freshly cleansed, dry skin. Remove all makeup, sunscreen, and skincare products.
Step 2 — Position the tool
Hold the dermaplaner at approximately a 45-degree angle, blade facing downwards. This is the correct angle for gentle, effective exfoliation.
Step 3 — Dermaplane gently
Using short, light downward strokes, gently sweep the blade in the direction of hair growth. Use minimal pressure — let the tool do the work. Move in small sections: cheeks, jawline, upper lip, forehead. Wipe the blade clean between sections if needed.
Optional — use with Facial Oil
Apply 3–4 drops of our Dermaplaning Facial Oil before starting for enhanced glide and skin barrier support.
First time?
Start slowly on one small area to build confidence. Dermaplaning should feel gentle and controlled — never scratchy or uncomfortable.
Aftercare
Apply a gentle hydrating serum or moisturiser. Avoid exfoliating acids and retinol for 24 hours after your session.
→ Try our Skin-Restoring Hyaluronic Acid
How often?
Dermaplaning every 2–4 weeks or when dermaplaning feels right for you.
Safety guidance
Avoid use on irritated, inflamed, sunburnt, or broken skin — including active breakouts, open wounds, or skin conditions. For external use only. Do not share your dermaplaner. If you have specific skin concerns or medical conditions, consult your healthcare professional before use.
Sustainability
100% plastic-free dermaplaning — from the tool to the packaging
Most at-home dermaplaning tools are disposable. They're made from plastic or wheat straw, used a handful of times, and thrown away — along with the packaging they came in.
The Make My Shave Metal Dermaplaner was designed to be the opposite of that.
The tool itself is solid metal — built to last years with regular blade replacements. The blades are stainless steel and replaced only when needed, generating a fraction of the waste of disposable plastic tools. The handle carries a lifetime warranty, which means you truly buy it once.
Even the packaging is planet-kind:
✔ Dermaplaner arrives in a 100% plastic-free kraft box — fully kerbside recyclable
✔ Shipped in a HeroPack home-compostable satchel made from renewable materials
✔ Packaging labels are FSC-certified, acid-free, and compostable
To compost your satchel: remove any labels, cut into pieces, and place in your home compost bin. It will break down naturally within 90–120 days.
No plastic. No batteries. No charging. Just a reusable metal dermaplaning tool that's kinder to your skin and the planet.
Recycling Support: While our Recycling Mailer accepts our body razor heads, dermaplaning blades require a little extra care.
Because they’re made from exposed sharp metal (unlike enclosed razor cartridges), they can’t be processed through our standard program and require specialised handling. For safe disposal, we recommend contacting your local council for guidance. Many councils offer designated sharps or metal disposal options, with details available on their website.
Every order makes a positive impact

A portion of every Make My Shave order supports Currumbin Wildlife Hospital — one of Queensland's most trusted native wildlife rehabilitation centres, treating more than 16,000 injured animals each year including koalas, kangaroos, birds, and reptiles.
Based right here on the Gold Coast, it's a cause that's genuinely close to home for us. Thank you for being part of it.

How to Dermaplane At Home

1. Prepare your skin
Start your facial routine with clean skin. Apply a few drops of our Dermaplaning Facial Oil for extra protection and glide — or dermaplane on dry skin if you prefer.

2. Dermaplane
Pull your skin taut, hold your dermaplaner at a 45-degree angle. Apply short, feathery strokes downward with light pressure.

3. Aftercare
Afterwards, apply our Skin-Restoring Hyaluronic Acid followed by your moisturiser. Clean your dermaplaning tool, replace the silicone cap, and store.
Questions about dermaplaning — answered
Does dermaplaning make peach fuzz grow back thicker or darker?
No — and this is the number one dermaplaning myth in Australia.
Dermaplaning removes hair at the surface level only. It has no effect on the hair follicle, which means the hair grows back exactly as it was before — the same texture, the same colour, the same density. What you may notice as it regrows is that the ends are blunt rather than tapered, which can feel slightly different at first. But within a few days it returns to its normal, soft feel.
Shaving your face does not change how your hair grows—it won’t grow back thicker or darker. Hair growth is influenced by factors like hormones and genetics, not shaving.
Is dermaplaning safe for sensitive skin?
Yes — when done correctly, dermaplaning is actually one of the gentler exfoliation methods available for sensitive skin. Unlike chemical exfoliants (AHAs, BHAs) or physical scrubs, dermaplaning doesn't use ingredients that can trigger reactions.
The key is technique: use light pressure, a clean sharp blade, and short downward strokes. Avoid dermaplaning over active breakouts, inflamed skin, sunburn, or open wounds.
If you're new to dermaplaning and have sensitive skin, start with a small area on your cheek and wait 24 hours before doing a full session.
How often should I dermaplane at home?
Every 3–4 weeks is a good starting point for most people — it aligns with your skin's natural cell turnover cycle and gives new skin cells time to mature between sessions.
But the honest answer is that it depends on your skin and your hair.
You might dermaplane closer to every 3 weeks if:
- Your peach fuzz grows back quickly and visibly
- You have faster skin cell turnover (often the case for younger skin)
- You've been dermaplaning for a while and know your skin handles it well
You might wait closer to 4–5 weeks if:
- You have sensitive, reactive, or dry skin
- Your skin feels tight or looks slightly pink after a session
- Your peach fuzz is fine and regrows slowly
The most reliable guide isn't the calendar — it's your skin. If the tool feels like it's gliding easily and your skin looks fresh and non-reactive the day after, your timing is right. If you feel any tightness, redness, or sensitivity, give it longer.
Overdoing it is the most common dermaplaning mistake. More frequent sessions don't produce better results — they produce a compromised skin barrier. When in doubt, wait the extra week.
Is at home dermaplaning safe?
Yes, when used as directed, our dermaplaner is designed for gentle, controlled exfoliation at home. It helps remove dull surface build-up and fine facial hair while supporting smoother-looking skin.
Always follow the usage instructions, use light pressure, and allow the tool to glide naturally over clean skin. Avoid use on irritated, inflamed, or compromised skin. Proper cleaning and blade care also helps maintain a safe, hygienic routine.
If you have specific skin concerns or medical conditions, we recommend consulting your healthcare professional before use.
What's the difference between a metal and a plastic dermaplaner?
The difference comes down to weight, precision, and durability.
Plastic and wheat-straw dermaplaners are lightweight — which sounds like a benefit, but it means you have to apply more pressure yourself to get effective exfoliation. More pressure equals more risk of irritation and nicks, particularly on curves like the jawline and upper lip.
A metal dermaplaner is heavier, which means the tool does more of the work. You hold it at the correct angle and let gravity and the blade do the exfoliating — you don't push. This gives you much better control and more consistent results.
Plastic tools are also single-use or very short-lived. The Make My Shave Metal Dermaplaner is designed to last years with replaceable blades, making it significantly better value over time.
How do I know when to replace my blades?
Replace your blade when you notice:
• The tool feels like it's dragging rather than gliding
• You need to press harder than usual to get results
• You can see visible dullness or damage on the blade edge
As a guide, each blade lasts approximately 2–5 uses — which, dermaplaning every 3–4 weeks, could mean 3–4 months per blade from your starter kit. Everyone's skin and hair is different, so judge by how the tool feels rather than by the calendar.
Not all "eco-friendly" dermaplaners are what they claim.
Many biodegradable and wheat straw dermaplaners still contain plastic or PLA to meet safety standards — meaning they can't be recycled at home or composted, and will only break down in specialist industrial facilities.
The Make My Shave dermaplaner is different. 100% plastic-free, with a reusable metal handle, long-lasting replaceable blades, and fully recyclable packaging. No compromises.
